Minveteraniv is constantly working on creating the right conditions for the quality reintegration of defenders into society. In particular, on their obtaining available medical services and medicines. Together with the National Health Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs is explaining to veterans the ways to get medicine free of charge.
Therefore, Defenders for the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases can receive medicines for free or with a small surcharge under the “Affordable Medicines” program. Today, the program includes 532 drugs for cardiovascular diseases (in particular, for the prevention of strokes and heart attacks); type I and II diabetes, diabetes insipidus; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; mental and behavioral disorders, epilepsy; Parkinson’s disease, as well as pain relievers for palliative patients and immunosuppressants. Of them, 187 are free, the rest with a partial surcharge.
An electronic prescription from a family or treating physician is required to obtain medicines for a veteran under the Affordable Medicines program. Medicines can be picked up at pharmacies that have a contract with the National Health Service and are marked with a special sticker with the National Health Service logo.
Centralized state procurement provides for the purchase of certain medicinal products with state funds. In particular, these are drugs for the treatment of oncology, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, tuberculosis, mental and behavioral disorders, and many others. The full list of drugs can be viewed at the link.
In addition, patients on inpatient and outpatient treatment are provided with drugs from the National List of Essential Medicines. This includes drugs for heart failure, tuberculosis, hepatitis, Parkinson’s, hormones and antihormones, insulin, anticonvulsants, etc.
Medical facilities are obliged to purchase these drugs independently and cover the needs of patients by 100%. You can check the availability of medicines on the websites of local authorities and at the information stands of hospitals, where the information should be updated every week. You can check whether the drugs are included in the National List using the “Drug Control” service: https://likicontrol.com.ua
There are also local drug programs that provide free drugs to local veterans. Their cost is reimbursed from the budgets of OTG. Most often, these are drugs for seriously ill patients and patients with rare diseases. To get medicines under this program, you should contact the local self-government bodies.
Important – if you are forced to buy medicine that should be available in the hospital, immediately call the National Health Service hotline 16-77.
